Surgery is performed at the outpatient surgery center. What this means to you is that the nasal surgery will be completed in the relaxed atmosphere of a safe, certified and licensed medical facility, removed from the sometimes intimidating environment of a hospital. The surgery center is able to satisfy all the elements that a patient expects in ambulatory rhinoplasty surgery; namely, safety, convenience, confidentiality, and personalized care.
Each individual's cosmetic nasal surgery is unique, but basically the procedure involves adjusting the structures of the nose either by removing or adding bone and cartilage. The skin and soft tissues then redrape themselves over the new shape.
Recontouring is generally done through incisions inside the nose where they are invisible but, in some cases, there may also be an incision made in the area of the nose between the nostrils. It is sometimes necessary to narrow the base of the nose or even reduce the size of the nostrils. Any resulting incisions made outside the nose are placed into a natural skin fold and should be barely noticeable. In some individuals there may be an internal deformity of the nose that can affect breathing. This may be due to an irregularity in the septum (the sheet of cartilage and bone that separates the nostrils) or the turbinates (thin pieces of bone inside the nose that are covered with mucous membranes). Adjustment of these structures to improve breathing may be made at the same time as changes to the outer appearance of the nose.
In the majority of cases, the surgery takes about two hours to complete.
