Surgery is performed at the outpatient surgery center. What this means to you is that the ear surgery will be completed in the relaxed atmosphere of a safe, certified and licensed medical facility, removed from the sometimes intimidating environment of a hospital. The surgery center is able to satisfy all the elements that a patient expects in ambulatory rhinoplasty surgery; namely, safety, convenience, confidentiality, and personalized care.
Each patient's otoplasty is unique, but the most common procedure involves making a small incision in the back of the ear to expose the ear cartilage. In some cases, a piece of the cartilage is removed to create a more natural looking fold. Next the cartilage is reshaped and bent back toward the head and stitches are used to hold the new shape. In cases where only one ear protrudes, surgery on both ears may be indicated to restore better balance to the face.
Scars from the incisions will fade in time and are mostly concealed within the creases of the ears.
In most instances the surgery is completed in two to three hours although more complicated cases may require longer.
