The treatment area will be cleansed, wiped with alcohol and dried. EMLA* cream will be applied to anesthetize the skin prior to beginning the injection treatment. A special dressing may be also applied to the skin to enhance the effectiveness of the anesthetic cream.
A very fine needle is used by Dr. Stevens to inject the collagen just beneath the skin. During the treatment, you may be asked to smile, squint, or frown to help him visualize the lines in the face.
Treatment with collagen is highly individualized and the amount of collagen used as well as the interval for maintenance treatments varies. At the time of your treatment, Dr. Stevens will recommend a program that addresses your specific needs to maintain correction of wrinkles or scars.
*EMLA denotes Eutectic Mixture of Local Anesthetics. It is a topical anesthetic that penetrates the skin to provide local anesthesia.
